Linhoff Technika III
[Version 5 - 1955]

The Linhof Technika was the first all metal field camera. More appropriately called a Technical Field Camera, the camera permits a wide variety of movements:

  • 70 mm front rise
  • 15 deg. front L & R swing
  • 20 mm front L/R slide
  • Back swings and tilts
  • Front backward base tilt
  • Rotating Back and Drop Front
These movements allow for perspective correction and are used extensively in architectural, product and scientific photography. Combined with triple extension bellows, a rotating back, and interchangeable lens (mounted on lens boards), the Linhof Technika is truly a professional camera. The 90 mm lens shown here would be considered a wide angle lens (equivalent to a 28 mm lens on a 35 mm camera).

Designed to accept 4 x 5 in film or Polaroid film holders, the Technika III also incorporates a Graflok back. Sliding 2 levers releases the standard film holder which can then be replaced with other accessories such as a roll film holder.

The Universal Viewfinder shown at the left is able to telescope and view a scene at various focal lengths. This aids in the selection of the appropriate lens.
