Rollei 35T
[1978]

When the Rollei 35 was first introduced in 1966, it was the world’s smallest mass produced full frame 35 mm camera. High quality all metal construction and high quality optics led to its great success. The lens collapses and recedes into the body. Front mounted f-stop and shutter speed controls are linked to a “match needle” metering system. In order to make use of all available space the hot shoe flash mount is positioned on the bottom of the camera.

Other oddities included a left hand film advance and a completely removable back for film loading. Various models have been produced with the SE model being the most advanced. Originally made in Germany, some production was done in Singapore prior to the company going bankrupt. The latest Rollei 35 Classic is now being produced by the Korean Samsung Company .

Nikon EM
[1979]

The Nikon EM is smallest and lightest of the new breed of Nikon compact cameras. It was offered at an economical price and included low cost E series lenses. This by no means made it a cheap camera. Its body construction used the same high quality material as the Nikon F3. Simple to operate the camera operated in the AE auto exposure mode (the operator sets the aperture and the camera selects the correct exposure speed). A friendly electronic beep-beep aided in setting the correct exposure range. In addition the camera was able to exposure manually at 1/90 sec. if the battery went dead. The MD-E motor drive and SB-E electronic flash were dedicated accessories which could be added to the compact system.
